Sai Kung road closures Sunday morning; minibus to East Dam suspended until 11am
Sai Kung roads will close on Sunday morning for an event. The minibus service to the East Dam of the Wan Yiu Reservoir will be suspended until 11:00 am. Authorities advise visitors to walk and check for updates.
The Hong Kong Transport Department has announced temporary traffic arrangements for Sai Kung on Sunday, 31 October. The measures will affect roads near the Man Yiu Reservoir (also known as the East Dam) and the Kai Tak Reservoir. The special minibus route to the East Dam will be suspended until 11:00 am.
According to a government press release issued on 28 October, the section of Tai Mong Tsai Road between the Pak Tam Chung Handicapped Park and the junction with Sai Kung Man Yiu Road will be closed from 6:55 am to 7:10 am and again from 7:25 am to 7:45 am. In addition, Sai Kung Man Yiu Road will be closed from 6:00 am to 11:00 am along the stretch from its junction with Tai Mong Tsai Road to a point about 8.3 kilometres south of that junction.
During the closure of Sai Kung Man Yiu Road, the New Territories Green Minibus Route No. 9A (Pak Tam Chung – Man Yiu Reservoir East Dam) will suspend its first departure from Pak Tam Chung, which is scheduled for 9:30 am. The service is expected to resume at 11:00 am. Taxis will also be unable to access the area until the road reopens.
A Transport Department spokesman urged visitors to note that during the suspension of public transport services, the only way to reach the East Dam will be on foot. He advised visitors to plan their journey in advance and follow on-site signs. The minibus operator has made arrangements to deploy additional vehicles to meet passenger demand once the road reopens and to cooperate with police traffic control measures to manage the flow of travellers.
Police may implement and adjust road closures and traffic control measures depending on actual road conditions. Visitors are advised to check the Transport Department website (www.td.gov.hk) or the “Hong Kong eTransport” mobile app for the latest traffic information.
