Hong Kong's Transport Department has warned of heavy pedestrian and vehicle traffic at the Huanggang Port during the late-night hours from 30 October, as multiple events across the city are scheduled to end around midnight over three consecutive nights. The department said in a social media post that the port and the nearby San Tin Road area are expected to experience significant congestion.
To manage the anticipated surge, the Transport Department said it has coordinated with relevant authorities to implement traffic management measures and supporting arrangements around the port. A dedicated public transport lane has been set up at Huanggang Port, allowing franchised buses, cross-border coaches and minibuses to use the new San Sham Road to access the port directly. The department has also enhanced road markings, extended the dedicated lane and strengthened traffic management to improve efficiency.
During peak traffic hours, four franchised bus routes serving the San Tin Public Transport Interchange will enter the interchange directly from a junction on Castle Peak Road – San Tin section, bypassing the busy San Tin roundabout. The department said it has instructed public transport operators to reserve sufficient vehicles and staff to increase service frequency in line with passenger demand.
The Transport Department's Emergency Traffic Coordination Centre will monitor traffic conditions around Huanggang Port and across the city around the clock, ready to take appropriate response measures as needed. The department urged travelers to allow extra time for their journeys and to use public transport where possible.
