Punters queue for HK$108m Mark Six jackpot at 'luckiest' branch
Hundreds queued at Central's Stanley Street betting branch for Thursday's HK$108 million Mark Six draw, boosted by HK$80 million rolled over from a previous draw. Punters shared plans for winnings, from charity to buying a home.
Hundreds of punters queued at the Stanley Street betting branch in Central on Wednesday, hoping to win the HK$108 million Mark Six jackpot in Thursday's draw. The branch is known as the city's 'luckiest' betting outlet, drawing long lines during the lunch hour.
The jackpot was boosted by more than HK$80 million rolled over from the previous Halloween Snowball draw, which had no first prize winner. Punters placed early bets, with some spending over HK$100 on personal lucky numbers.
Wong, an office worker in the area, said he planned to spend more than HK$100 on his lucky numbers. Despite dreaming of a big win, he insisted he would keep working, joking that quitting abruptly would tip off his colleagues.
Not all punters sought riches for themselves. Wu, a shopper who spent HK$20 on a computer-generated ticket, said she would spend any winnings on things she enjoys and donate a portion to charity. 'People should consider more than their own happiness and contribute to society,' she added.
Kwok, a retiree, was drawn by the branch's lucky reputation and spent HK$210 on four tickets. He said if he won, his priority would be buying a home for his son and investing the rest for retirement.
