Old Stanley Police Station offered for four-year lease via tender

The Government Property Agency on Thursday launched a tender for a four-year lease of the 167-year-old Old Stanley Police Station. The submission period closes on 3 December.

The site covers 445 square metres, with a total floor area of 660 square metres. Successful bidders must submit a conservation proposal approved by the Antiquities and Monuments Office (AMO). The proposal must detail the rationale for any restoration or alteration works, an assessment of the impact on the building's heritage value, and a maintenance and management plan for the operational phase.

The premises cannot be sublet or transferred. Permitted uses are limited to retail and service industries, restaurants, exhibition or convention halls, and recreational or cultural activities.

Located at 88 Stanley Village Road, the two-storey building was constructed in 1859. It is the oldest existing police station in Hong Kong. The structure still retains its original brick arched ceiling and fireplace in the armory.

Historically, the Old Stanley Police Station served as a strategically important outpost at the southernmost tip of Hong Kong Island. It was used jointly by the police force and the British Army. During the Japanese occupation, a mortuary was added to the building.
