The Triathlon World Cup Hong Kong leg began on 7 November with the men's and women's elite individual races along the Central and Wan Chai waterfront. The course covered more than 24 kilometres, starting from the promenade with a 750-metre swim in Victoria Harbour, followed by an 18.5km cycling leg passing the Exhibition Road, International Finance Centre and Central Pier, and a 5km run past the Government Headquarters and Legislative Council, finishing at Lung To Road.
In the women's race, which started at about 8:45am, the top three finishers came from Russia, Luxembourg and the Chinese national team, crossing the line nearly an hour later. Hong Kong's Choi Yan-yin recorded the best result among local athletes, placing 37th, with Vicky Wei in 39th and Pang Sze-nga in 50th.
Choi said after the race that she was satisfied with her performance and felt it met her expectations. Pang described failing to find her bicycle in the transition area as a basic mistake and said she hoped not to repeat it.
In the men's event, the top three athletes from France, Australia and Spain finished in about 50 minutes. Hong Kong's Tsang Cheung-sing placed 58th. He said his swimming and cycling were strong enough to put him in a favourable position early on, but he could not keep pace with rivals in the running leg, acknowledging that his overall standard still lagged behind.
The mixed relay event is scheduled for 8 November.
