Acting Chief Executive Eric Chan Kwok-ki has attributed Hong Kong’s strong showing in Asian university rankings to clear government policies and sustained investment, as five local institutions entered the top 10 in the region. Speaking at the World Class University Presidents Forum, Chan said Hong Kong is the only city in the world with five universities among the top 100 globally, with three of them also making the regional top five.
Chan highlighted the government’s plan to establish three university towns in the Northern Metropolis, aiming to transform the city into an international education hub. He said the initiative would be supported by continued financial backing and a clear policy direction from the authorities.
The acting chief executive also announced that the government will fully promote the “Study in Hong Kong” brand to attract talent from mainland China, Belt and Road countries, and around the world. He described Hong Kong as a bridge between the mainland and global higher education, committed to broadening students’ horizons and cultivating innovative talent.
Chan’s remarks came as he credited the universities’ own efforts alongside government support for the city’s academic success in the latest Asian rankings.
