Hong Kong grants ‘M’ brand status to three major sports events

Hong Kong's Major Sports Events Committee has awarded 'M' brand recognition to three international events: the 2026 Triathlon World Cup, BLAST Premier Hong Kong Rivals 2026, and the Bank of China (Hong Kong) Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Half Marathon 2026.

Hong Kong grants ‘M’ brand status to three major sports events

Hong Kong's Major Sports Events Committee has awarded 'M' brand recognition to three international sporting events, the committee announced on 30 October.

The events granted the status are the 2026 Triathlon World Cup – Hong Kong (7-8 November), BLAST Premier Hong Kong Rivals 2026 (13-15 November), and the Bank of China (Hong Kong) Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (Hong Kong Section) Half Marathon 2026 (15 November).

Committee chairman Ng Sau-kei said the designation covered a triathlon that would allow athletes to showcase their fighting spirit on Victoria Harbour and Central streets, a top international e-sports tournament at the Asia World-Expo drawing global attention, and a half marathon using a world-class landmark to highlight Hong Kong's unique landscape.

"These events not only attract world-class athletes and tourists from various countries to Hong Kong, but also further consolidate Hong Kong's status as a global sports events hub," Ng said.

The 'M' brand scheme is designed to encourage and assist local sports associations, private entities and non-governmental organisations in organising more major international sports activities and to support their sustainability. Activities meeting the approval criteria may receive committee recognition, with some also eligible for funding.

The scheme aims to develop major sports events, cultivate a sustainable sports culture in Hong Kong, enhance the city's image as an international sports events hub, and generate tangible economic benefits for society.

Details of 'M' brand events are available at www.mevents.org.hk.
