The Major Sports Events Committee has granted "M" brand recognition to three international sporting events, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government announced on Thursday.
The recognised events are the Link Hong Kong Golf Open 2026, scheduled for 22 to 25 October; the Hong Kong Sixes cricket tournament, to be held from 30 October to 1 November; and the Prudential Hong Kong Tennis Open 2026, running from 31 October to 8 November.
Committee Chairman Wu Sau-kei said on 15 October: "We are very pleased to grant 'M' brand recognition to these three high-level international sporting events. These competitions cover golf, cricket and tennis, and will bring world-class athletes to Hong Kong to compete for honours. From the Hong Kong Golf Club's Fanling course and Tin Kwong Road Recreation Ground to the Centre Court at Victoria Park, these events fully demonstrate Hong Kong's outstanding ability to host diverse international competitions. They will not only provide residents and visitors with spectacular viewing experiences, but also further consolidate Hong Kong's status as a capital of international sports events."
The "M" brand scheme aims to encourage and assist local sports federations, private bodies and non-governmental organisations in staging more large-scale international sporting activities, and to nurture their sustainable development. Activities that meet the approval criteria may receive "M" brand recognition from the committee, with some also eligible for funding support.
The scheme is designed to promote the development of major sports events, cultivate a sustainable sports culture in Hong Kong, enhance the city's image as an international sports capital, and generate tangible economic benefits for society.
