Hong Kong Customs ready for reopening of rebuilt Huanggang Port
Hong Kong Customs says it is operationally ready for the rebuilt Huanggang Port's opening, with streamlined vehicle checks cutting inspection time from eight to two minutes.
Hong Kong Customs is fully prepared for the reopening of the rebuilt Huanggang Port, according to Assistant Commissioner Jiang Yili. Speaking on 6 October, Jiang said the department is ready in terms of personnel deployment, training, system adjustments and operational arrangements for the new checkpoint.
Jiang noted that relevant authorities, including Customs, have been continuously testing the integrated one-stop vehicle inspection lanes. She said issues encountered during testing have been resolved one by one, with the aim of ensuring seamless integration of hardware and software in the lanes. The goal, she added, is to provide the public with smooth and safe clearance experiences once the port opens.
Compared with the old Huanggang Port, vehicle inspection time at the rebuilt checkpoint has been reduced from eight minutes to two minutes, Jiang said. She also revealed that the average daily number of vehicles travelling between Lok Ma Chau and Huanggang Port this year has reached more than 8,000. Jiang forecast that traffic volume after the rebuilt Huanggang Port opens would be similar.
