Huanggang Port to open on 12 October with 24-hour services
Huanggang Port's new joint inspection building will open on 12 October at 6:30am, providing round-the-clock clearance for passengers and coaches, after passing tests and drills. The port's Hong Kong section and related areas came under Hong Kong jurisdiction from 31 July.
The Security Bureau announced that the new joint inspection building at Huanggang Port has passed acceptance checks, and both Hong Kong and Shenzhen authorities have completed a series of system tests, trial runs and emergency drills, confirming that the port is ready for operation. After consultation between Guangdong and Hong Kong governments, Huanggang Port will officially open for service at 6:30am on 12 October, providing 24-hour clearance for passengers and coaches. At the same time, passenger inspection services at the temporary inspection building at Shenzhen's Huanggang Port and the Hong Kong Lok Ma Chau Control Point will be suspended.
According to the bureau, the State Council has approved the activation of the Hong Kong-side port area and related extensions of Huanggang Port. The area came under the jurisdiction of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region in accordance with Hong Kong law from 00:00 on 31 July. The opening date was agreed upon by Guangdong and Hong Kong governments.
The new facility is expected to improve cross-border travel efficiency between Hong Kong and Shenzhen. The port will handle both pedestrian and vehicular traffic on a 24-hour basis.
