Hang Seng Index falls 0.7 per cent in early Wednesday trading
Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index fell 0.7 per cent in early trading on Wednesday, while the Hang Seng Tech Index dropped 1.3 per cent. South Korean shares also declined as investors awaited Samsung Electronics’ earnings for cues on AI demand.
Hong Kong’s benchmark Hang Seng Index fell in early trading on Wednesday, dropping by 175 points, or 0.7 per cent, to 24,104 points. The Hang Seng Tech Index was down 1.3 per cent to about 4,169 points, according to market data.
South Korean shares also declined on Wednesday, as investors adopted a wait-and-see approach ahead of Samsung Electronics’ earnings release, which is expected to provide insight into the outlook for artificial-intelligence demand, Reuters reported.
The benchmark KOSPI fell by 43.20 points, or 0.62 per cent, to 6,898.19 as of 0138 GMT. Chipmaker Samsung Electronics rose 0.18 per cent, after gaining more than 2 per cent earlier in the session, while peer SK Hynix lost 1.52 per cent.
The early trading moves in both Hong Kong and South Korea reflected cautious sentiment among investors, particularly around technology and AI-related stocks.
