12 miners dead after coal mine explosion at Inner Mongolia

Rescuers have found 12 dead bodies at Rongsheng Colliery in Jiudonggou Village of Otog Banner in southwestern Inner Mongolia following a gas explosion went off at the mine at 4 AM on 13 March. Nine other miners are still trapped underground.

A total of 33 miners were working underground when the blast occurred, Xinhua reported. Search and rescue operations are still ongoing and the injured miners have been hospitalized in Wuhai City.

Rongsheng Colliery is a privately-owned mine and its owner Li Zhongfu, 43, is a native of Jixi, Heilongjiang Province.
