Guangdong Communist Party Secretary Huang Kunming has visited the Huanggang port in Shenzhen to inspect the rebuilt facility and review preparations ahead of its reopening, state media reported on 8 October.
During the inspection, Huang toured the customs channels and departure hall of the port's joint inspection building, examining the functional layout, customs clearance procedures and transport connections. He described the Huanggang port as a key hub for travel between Shenzhen and Hong Kong, as well as between Guangdong and Hong Kong, and said the implementation of a 'one-stop inspection' arrangement at the port was a vivid practice of the 'one country, two systems' principle.
With the new port set to open soon, Huang called on relevant departments to coordinate with Hong Kong authorities to make system testing, emergency drills and staffing arrangements more thorough and solid. He stressed the need to ensure the port opens on schedule and operates smoothly and efficiently, while continuously amplifying the advantages of the 'cooperative inspection, one-time clearance' model. He also noted that during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meetings, when international visitors travel frequently, customs procedures and foreign-related services must be further optimised to project a good image through high-quality service.
Huang emphasised that Shenzhen should seize the opportunity presented by the port's reopening to more closely align with Hong Kong's Northern Territories development plan. He called for deeper personnel exchanges and economic ties, and for promoting the efficient flow of quality resources between the two sides. He also urged that the port's reopening effectively drive the development of the Shenzhen-Hong Kong Science and Technology Innovation Zone at the border area, and better convert passenger flow into growth momentum.
