Wine and food fest draws Guangdong visitors on final day

The Hong Kong Wine and Food Festival, organised by the Hong Kong Tourism Board, concluded on Sunday 1 November, drawing large numbers of tourists and residents. Many took the opportunity to visit the event on its final day.

Mr Cui, a visitor from Guangdong, came to Hong Kong for a day trip with his family of three. He said he had seen the festival promoted online and collected a free visitor experience pass after arriving at the West Kowloon high-speed rail station. It was his first time attending the festival. He described the vendors' service attitude as good and the products as excellent, adding that the prices were very reasonable compared with general Hong Kong levels. He noted that one token could buy a duck leg. He also said the event offered many interactive activities, including lucky draws and a wine-matching test. He estimated he would spend about 1,000 yuan at the festival.

Another Guangdong visitor, Ms Zhang, said she organises food festivals in Foshan and had come specifically to learn from Hong Kong's experience in hosting such events. She said the Hong Kong festival appeared more international and had more stalls. She planned to observe how the exhibition was set up and how products were marketed, and take the experience back to the mainland.

Hong Kong resident Mr Lau arrived in the afternoon with his wife. He said the stalls offered a wide variety of food and wine at reasonable prices, and that daytime queuing was not necessary, allowing time to browse and chat with wine merchants. His goal was to taste red and white wines from different countries, and he expected to spend about 1,000 yuan. Mrs Lau said she planned to try regional snacks such as abalone, hotel beef tenderloin and speciality drinks, and estimated spending around 1,000 yuan, adding that the budget could rise if she found a wine she liked.
