Hong Kong tenders three plots for brownfield operators in Kowloon and New Territories

The Hong Kong government has invited brownfield operators to tender for three plots of land in Kowloon and the New Territories under short-term leases, according to a 9 October 2026 press release from the Lands Department.

Operators who have been invited to participate in previous relevant short-term lease tenders twice or more after the completion of a government development clearing exercise will not be invited to this tender, the department said. The tender opened on 9 October and will close on 9 November.

Details of the three plots and the relevant government development projects are set out in a government notice published in the Gazette on 9 October. Under current arrangements, business operators affected by government development projects may receive statutory compensation or ex-gratia payments if they meet the relevant claim criteria.

A Lands Department spokesman said the department has been working to identify suitable vacant government land for short-term lease tenders to help brownfield operators relocate their businesses and make better use of land resources.

The three plots can be used for various purposes, including open-air storage, warehouses and workshops related to the construction industry, as well as other industrial uses, open-air storage, warehousing, workshops, recycling, and reprocessing businesses.

The spokesman emphasised that the Lands Department will continue to identify suitable vacant land for short-term lease tenders to enable brownfield operators to relocate their businesses.
