Hong Kong starts open recruitment for CEO of new building maintenance body

The Development Bureau has confirmed that the open recruitment for the chief executive of the Building Maintenance Support and Services Bureau has commenced. The chairman and chief executive of the newly established body are both appointed by the Chief Executive of Hong Kong. The selection committee is primarily composed of government personnel, and the appointment process will follow procedures similar to those for other wholly government-owned companies to ensure fairness and transparency, the bureau said in response to media enquiries.

The government and the Urban Renewal Authority are assisting the bureau in gradually recruiting staff. The bureau is expected to have nearly 100 employees in its initial operational phase, covering a range of functions including compiling and managing pre-qualification lists, handling tender and bid evaluation cases, monitoring progress, developing and maintaining information technology systems, customer services, legal support, administrative and accounting support, and internal auditing.

The government aims to complete preparatory work by the end of 2026, including registration, board appointments, office establishment and leasing. Three pre-qualification lists are expected to be ready by the end of the year, with building inspection consultants to be assigned starting January 2027. Project tenders for property owners will be launched within the first quarter of 2027. The authorities will announce fee and subsidy details in due course.
