The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Brussels held a seminar in Lisbon, Portugal, on 29 October to promote business opportunities in Hong Kong's food and beverage and retail sectors. Speaking at the event, Hong Kong's representative to the European Union, Yung Pui-man, emphasised Hong Kong's status as an international trade and shipping hub, describing it as an attractive market and product showcase platform for Portuguese food and drink products seeking to enter Asia and other consumer markets.

Yung noted Hong Kong's reputation as a "culinary paradise", with a diverse range of dining options and a mature consumer market. She pointed out that Hong Kong received nearly 50 million visitors in 2025, offering international brands access to a broad and diverse customer base. She also highlighted Hong Kong's location within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, which has a population of about 88 million, describing it as an ideal starting point for companies looking to expand regionally.

The representative added that Hong Kong could help businesses tap into the vast opportunities of the mainland Chinese market, owing to the Mainland and Hong Kong Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement and free trade agreements with the 11 member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.

During the seminar, attendees were invited to visit Hong Kong in 2027 for major trade events, including the Asia's leading international food, beverage, hospitality and hotel equipment exhibition from 10 to 12 May, the Hong Kong Food Expo from 12 to 16 August, and the Hong Kong Wine and Dine Festival at the end of the year. The events were described as opportunities to meet business partners and experience the celebratory atmosphere of the 30th anniversary of Hong Kong's return to Chinese sovereignty.
