Hong Kong officials inspect new Kowloon bypass ahead of December opening
Hong Kong's Executive Council and Legislative Council members have inspected the new Central Kowloon Bypass (Kowloon Bay section), which will open on 6 December. The project uses innovative technology and artificial intelligence, officials said.
The Central Kowloon Bypass (Kowloon Bay section) will open to traffic on 6 December, with construction entering its final stage. The Executive Council and Legislative Council have conducted site inspections ahead of the opening.
Executive Council convener Regina Ip, along with non-official members Michael Cheung, Leung Ko Mei Yee and Chan Kwok Kan, visited the site on 26 October. On 2 November, Legislative Council transport committee chairman Ben Chan, vice-chairman Yiu Pak Leung and other lawmakers toured the project under the guidance of Secretary for Transport and Logistics Sunny Ma.
The delegation first attended a briefing at the administration building in Lam Tin. Leung Chung-nam, director of the Civil Engineering and Development Department's east development division, led the engineering team in presenting the design features and latest progress of the bypass. The team also shared how it had used innovative technology and artificial intelligence during construction.
Lawmakers then travelled by vehicle to inspect tunnel sections and related entrances and exits, experiencing the convenience and smooth traffic flow expected after the bypass opens. The engineering team explained the planning, design and construction philosophy, emphasising how it had taken into account the development of surrounding communities and residents' needs.
The Civil Engineering and Development Department thanked the legislators for their interest and support for the project. It said the engineering team would continue to make thorough preparations to deliver a "one moment arrival, one pulse connecting the city" travel experience for the public as soon as possible.
