Hong Kong finance chief touts city's role as 'super connector' at World Connoisseurs Gala
Hong Kong's Financial Secretary Paul Chan announced HK$100 million to attract new international exhibitions, speaking at the World Connoisseurs Gala. He highlighted Hong Kong's advantages as a 'super connector' with free flow of capital, goods, talent and information, and its role as a global trade
Financial Secretary Paul Chan said Hong Kong's strength as a 'super connector' lies in the free flow of capital, goods, talent and information, speaking at the three-day World Connoisseurs Gala held at Asia World-Expo. Chan noted that the city's simple, low tax system, efficient customs clearance processes and comprehensive logistics network all help businesses achieve rapid movement of goods.
Chan announced that the 2026-27 budget had set aside an additional HK$100 million (US$12.8 million) to attract new international exhibitions to Hong Kong. The World Connoisseurs Gala is the first event under that scheme.
Chan said Hong Kong, as a leading financial and wealth management centre, brings together various investors, wealthy families and discerning clients. He pledged to continue strengthening Hong Kong's position as an international trade centre and world-class convention and exhibition hub.
The financial secretary added that through such events, Hong Kong brands can discover new customers while visitors can find more new things in the city.
