The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Brussels supported the Spanish Moving Images Festival, which screened 10 classic Hong Kong films from the 1980s and 1990s. An ETO official highlighted government measures to boost the film industry, including film-plus-tourism initiatives.
The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Brussels has supported the Spanish Moving Images Festival, which this year focuses on Hong Kong's 'neon era' with a selection of 10 classic films from 1980 to 1999, the Hong Kong government announced on 8 October.
The selected films are A Better Tomorrow, Boat People, City on Fire, Comrades: Almost a Love Story, Fallen Angels, Made in Hong Kong, My Heart Is That Eternal Rose, The Killer, Throw Down and The Twin Dragons.
At a reception held on 7 October in Madrid, Assistant Representative of the Hong Kong ETO in Brussels, Leung Chi-hong, praised the Hong Kong film industry's outstanding achievements in the 1980s and 1990s, saying its influence on global cinema remains profound.
Leung noted that the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government has been committed to supporting film development, and introduced new measures announced by the Chief Executive in the 2026 Policy Address to further promote the industry, such as 'film-plus-tourism' promotion. He added that the overseas film shooting support team under the Culture, Creative Industries, and Development Office provides one-stop services for overseas film crews shooting in Hong Kong. He invited attendees to look forward to more films about Hong Kong's unique culture in the coming years.
The Spanish Moving Images Festival is a Madrid-based festival dedicated to showcasing Asian audio-visual experiments, art films and video art. It promotes emerging filmmakers and artists from China, Japan, South Korea, India and Southeast Asia, and presents works by avant-garde and classic creators.
