Hong Kong Interbank Clearing Limited (HKICL) on Tuesday warned the public about a fraudulent website impersonating its official site. The scam site, fpshk.asia, is disguised as a “buyer online safety guarantee” service and offers fake Faster Payment System (FPS) transaction security services, including refunds, reporting of unauthorised online transactions, and online transaction support. It then directs users to engage in conversations with fake customer service personnel.
HKICL clarified that the fraudulent website has no connection whatsoever with the clearing house or any of its services. Under normal circumstances, the clearing house does not directly provide FPS services to individual members of the public, nor does it proactively contact individuals. The genuine official websites of HKICL are www.hkicl.com.hk and fps.hkicl.com.hk.
The clearing house urged members of the public to be vigilant against suspicious phone calls, websites or other communications, and to carefully protect their personal data. Anyone who receives suspicious communications claiming to be from an HKICL member should verify by calling the clearing house at 2533 1111. If members of the public suspect they have been defrauded, they should report the matter to the police as soon as possible.
