Hong Kong clearing house warns public of fake FPS fraud websites
Hong Kong Interbank Clearing Limited has discovered two fraudulent websites posing as its official site, offering fake FPS transaction security services. The clearing house urges the public to protect personal data and report suspicious communications.
Hong Kong Interbank Clearing Limited (HKICL) has warned the public about two fraudulent websites impersonating its official platform, the company said on 28 October. The fake sites – fpshkicl-hke8.sy30.my and fpsicl-hke8.sy30.my – pose as a "buyer online security guarantee" and claim to offer Faster Payment System (FPS) transaction services including refunds, reporting unauthorised transactions and online transaction support.
HKICL stressed that these websites have no connection with the clearing house or any of its businesses. The company noted that the fraudulent links may appear with various endings, such as fpshkicl-hke8.sy30.my/?link=xPOBvC9MGNX3Yme1 or fpsicl-hke8.sy30.my/?link=xPOBvC9MGNX3Yme1.
Under normal circumstances, HKICL said it does not directly provide FPS services to individual members of the public, nor does it proactively contact individuals. The company's genuine official websites are www.hkicl.com.hk and fps.hkicl.com.hk.
HKICL urged the public to be cautious of suspicious phone calls, websites or other communications, and to protect their personal data carefully. Anyone who receives suspicious communications claiming to be from an HKICL member should verify them by calling the company on 2533 1111. Members of the public who suspect they have been defrauded should report the matter to the police promptly.
