Hong Kong Post warns of fake websites, urges public vigilance

Hong Kong, 3 November 2026 – Hong Kong Post has alerted the public to beware of fake websites pretending to be the official postal service. The government-owned operator said it has no connection with the fraudulent sites and has referred the case to the police for investigation.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Hong Kong Post reminded residents that its only official websites are hongkongpost.hk, hongkongpost.gov.hk and ecert.gov.hk. It also clarified that it sends SMS messages to local mobile users exclusively under the sender name #HKPost, and that all official emails come from domains ending in @hkpo.gov.hk or @hongkongpost.hk.

The postal service stressed that it never sends hyperlinks via email, SMS or social media to request payments or collect personal data. It urged members of the public to stay alert, avoid clicking on suspicious links and refrain from providing personal information on unverified websites.

Residents who have concerns or suspect they have encountered a fraudulent site can contact Hong Kong Post’s enquiry hotline at 2921 2222 or send an email to [email protected].

The warning comes amid a rise in online scams impersonating government agencies. Hong Kong Post advised anyone who has inadvertently shared personal details on a fake site to report the matter to the police immediately.
