Hong Kong's Transport Department on 6 October announced special traffic and transport arrangements for the Hong Kong Cyclothon on 11 October. The three main events—two cycling rides and one road race—will start and finish at Museum Road in the West Kowloon Cultural District. Affected roads include Yat Sun Road, West Kowloon Highway, Cheung Tsing Tunnel, Tsing Ma Bridge, Ting Kau Bridge, Nam Wan Tunnel, Stonecutters Bridge, Tate's Cairn Tunnel, Sha Tin Heights Tunnel and the Central Kowloon Route (Yau Ma Tei section). These roads will reopen in phases by about 1:15 pm.
During the closures, 120 franchised bus routes (33 Citybus, 32 KMB, 28 cross-harbour and 27 LWB) and seven minibus routes will be diverted, shortened or relocated. Taxi stands, taxi pick-up/drop-off points, minibus parking, private car parks and roadside parking within closed areas will be suspended.
The closures will not affect vehicles travelling from Hong Kong Island, Kowloon or the New Territories East to the airport or Lantau. Due to the closure of Ting Kau Bridge (towards Kowloon), vehicles from the New Territories West via Tuen Mun Road or Tai Lam Tunnel must use Tsuen Wan Road, Tsuen Tsing Interchange, Tsuen Tsing Road, Tsuen Tsing Bridge, Tam Kon Road Interchange and Tsing Yi North Coast Road to reach Tsing Ma Bridge. The Western Harbour Tunnel (both directions) will remain open. Vehicles from the New Territories West or Kowloon West heading to Hong Kong Island must use the Lin Shing Road (northbound) branch near the Civil Aid Service Headquarters to reach the tunnel.
The Central Kowloon Route (Yau Ma Tei section) will be affected for the first time. The Kowloon Bay-bound tube will close from 2:00 am, requiring vehicles from the New Territories West to use Shing Cheung Road and Lung Cheung Road, while those from Kowloon West via Lin Shing Road must use Lai Cheung Road, Gascoigne Road Flyover, Chatham Road North and the Eastern Kowloon Corridor to reach Kai Tak Tunnel. The Yau Ma Tei-bound tube will close from 7:00 am, requiring vehicles from Kowloon East to use Kai Tak Tunnel, Eastern Kowloon Corridor, Chatham Road North and Gascoigne Road Flyover to reach Ferry Street or the West Kowloon Corridor. Both tubes will reopen by about 1:15 pm.
Roads within the West Kowloon Cultural District will close from 1:00 am. All bus and minibus stops, taxi stands and parking there will be suspended until about 1:15 pm. The Transport Department urged the public to avoid driving to affected areas, use public transport, especially rail, and plan journeys early. It also advised checking the department's website, the “Hong Kong Journey” mobile app, radio and television for updates.
