Hong Kong Customs youth visit Macau for exchange, WCO meeting
Hong Kong Customs' Customs YES youth programme visited Macau for cultural and educational exchanges, including a baking workshop with Macau customs youth, a tour of the maritime command, and participation in the 36th WCO Asia-Pacific regional meeting. The trip aimed to broaden participants' global视野
Hong Kong Customs led a group of Customs YES youth programme members on an international exchange trip to Macau, aimed at deepening interaction between young people in the two cities, the government announced on Thursday.
The delegation first joined members of Macau Customs' youth scheme, "Keepers of Integrity", in a Portuguese egg tart baking workshop, experiencing Macau's unique food culture and building friendships. They then visited the Macau Customs Marine Command and toured the customs fleet to learn about its law enforcement work in safeguarding maritime security, conducting sea patrols and combating smuggling.
To enhance understanding of Macau's development positioning as "one centre, one platform, one base", the group visited the China and Portuguese-speaking Countries Commercial and Trade Cooperation Service Platform exhibition hall, learning about economic and trade cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking nations, and Macau's bridging role in promoting such exchanges.
Marking the 77th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, the delegation also visited the former residence of General Ye Ting, studying the heroic deeds of revolutionary forebears and modern Chinese history to foster patriotism. They toured cultural landmarks including the Ruins of St Paul's, the Mount Fortress and Rua do Cunha to experience Macau's blend of Chinese and Western cultures.
Hong Kong Customs, in its capacity as vice-chair of the Asia-Pacific region of the World Customs Organization, arranged for the delegation to participate in the 36th WCO Asia-Pacific Regional Contact Meeting held in Macau. During the welcome reception, Customs YES members received foreign guests and, for the first time, co-hosted the event with Macau youth representatives, showcasing confidence and responsibility before customs representatives from across the region.
Customs YES will continue to organise diverse mainland and international exchange activities in line with the national 15th Five-Year Plan and Hong Kong's first five-year development plan, helping young people broaden their global horizons and better integrate into national development, the government said.
