Hang Seng Index tops 24,000 points in early Friday trading
The Hang Seng Index rose above 24,000 points in early trading on Friday, gaining 242 points to 24,028. The Hang Seng Tech Index also rose 1.3 per cent. Regional markets mostly fell amid global inflation and Middle East war concerns.
The Hang Seng Index climbed above 24,000 points in early morning trading on Friday, gaining 242 points, or 1 per cent, to reach 24,028 points, according to a staff reporter and Reuters.
The Hang Seng Tech Index also rose, advancing 1.3 per cent to approximately 4,127 points.
However, broader regional markets were weaker. MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan fell 0.16 per cent and was on track for a weekly drop of more than 1 per cent. Markets in South Korea and Taiwan were closed for a public holiday, while Japan's Nikkei index fell more than 1 per cent.
Brent crude futures stood at US$103.70 per barrel during Asian hours, following a surge of more than 4 per cent in the previous session. The rise was attributed to concerns over the war in the Middle East, which has stoked inflation worries and contributed to higher interest rates globally.
