Four people sustained minor injuries in a three-vehicle collision on the Kwun Tong Bypass on Thursday night, prompting the closure of all lanes near the Hongkong Post building, the Transport Department said.
The accident occurred around 9pm when a private car travelling towards Tseung Kwan O collided with a Citybus and another private car near MegaBox, according to The Standard.
Rescuers found the female driver of one private car trapped inside but she was not seriously hurt and was later freed. Four people sustained minor injuries, including two Citybus passengers — one a woman in her 70s — as well as a male driver in his 60s and a female passenger in her 30s from the private car.
The Transport Department said traffic in the area was heavy and all lanes of the Kwun Tong Bypass towards Yau Tong near the Hongkong Post building were closed.
Photos showed a black private car across the middle of the road with its front end against a roadside barrier, while the Citybus had severe front-end damage, a shattered windscreen and a detached bumper. All passengers alighted and continued their journeys on other vehicles.
Citybus said a Route 798 bus towards Tiu Keng Leng was involved in an accident at around 10pm, with two bus passengers and two people from the private car sustaining minor injuries. The company expressed sympathy to affected passengers, suspended the driver's duties and will cooperate with the police investigation.
