Hong Kong’s Security Bureau on Sunday (4 Oct 2026) hosted a community experience day at the Huanggang Port, giving more than 1,500 residents from all 18 districts a first look at the new cross-border facility. Organised through the Home Affairs Bureau’s district offices, participants travelled by dedicated bus services to the Hong Kong-side port area, where guides from the Fire Services Department and the Correctional Services Department led them on group tours of the joint inspection building.

Visitors first arrived at the public transport interchange to learn about the bus and cross-border coach connections serving the port. They then toured the joint inspection building to see its interior design highlights and tried out free government Wi‑Fi and other amenities. Escalators took them to the fifth-floor departure hall, where Immigration Department staff explained the operation of the “co-operative inspection” automated lanes, demonstrating the new “co-operative inspection, one-stop release” clearance model. On the fourth-floor arrival hall, Hong Kong Customs officers briefed participants on passenger clearance and customs examination procedures.

Security Minister Tang Biu-keung inspected the event and spoke with participants to gather their views on the port and the experience. He noted that many residents had given positive feedback and were looking forward to the early opening of the rebuilt Huanggang Port, which they expected to deliver a more efficient and convenient clearance experience. Tang handed out gift packs prepared by the Security Bureau and posed for group photos with attendees.

The atmosphere at the experience day was lively, with many visitors visibly excited. The activity deepened participants’ understanding of the port’s public transport arrangements, immigration and customs clearance services, and the facilities in the joint inspection building. The Hong Kong government will continue to work closely with Shenzhen authorities to ensure thorough preparation for the port’s opening.
