Hong Kong and Guangdong honour MiMEP award winners for efficient construction

The Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD) and the Architectural Services Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government presented awards on 6 November to promote the use of Modular Integrated Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MiMEP) in construction.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Director of the Development Bureau Lin Zhiwen said the competition provided a platform for industry players from Hong Kong and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (Greater Bay Area) to learn from each other and explore the future development of MiMEP. He noted that the Development Bureau had issued a public works technical circular this year requiring the adoption of MiMEP in suitable public works projects. Next year, he added, the bureau would work with mainland authorities to publish a cross-border trade guide for MiMEP to facilitate cross-boundary development. The government would continue to promote wider use of MiMEP through policy guidance, technology promotion and talent training.

Guo Jianhua, a second-level inspector from the Housing Construction Department, said she was pleased to witness the new productivity and innovative outcomes MiMEP had brought to the Greater Bay Area. She expressed hope that Guangdong and Hong Kong would further deepen technological innovation and industrial collaboration in construction to jointly drive the coordinated development of the MiMEP industrial chain in the Greater Bay Area.

The competition featured four main award categories – new construction projects, projects under construction, renovation and addition works, and factories and manufacturers – and three special award categories. It received more than 80 entries from cities across the Greater Bay Area. The judging panel selected 52 winning teams, of which four received the top honour, the 'Infinity Award', for projects including large medical facilities, key commercial landmarks, energy-saving retrofits of government buildings and advanced manufacturing in the Greater Bay Area.
