Chinese President Xi Jinping told Oman's Sultan Haitham bin Tariq al-Said on Monday that Beijing sees expanding and deepening ties with Muscat as a 'shared strategic choice' for both countries, according to a report from the media pool covering their meeting in Beijing.
Xi told the sultan at the start of their talks that the bilateral relationship is at a 'new historical starting point'. 'I am ready to work with you to guide the China-Oman strategic partnership to an even higher level, better serve the peoples of our two countries, and contribute to peace, stability and prosperity in the region,' Xi said, the pool report stated.
Haitham arrived in the Chinese capital on Sunday for a two-day visit, the first by an Omani head of state since the two nations established diplomatic ties in 1978. The meeting in Beijing marks a further step in bilateral relations that have spanned nearly five decades.
Xi's remarks underscore China's push to strengthen strategic partnerships in the Middle East, with Oman serving as a key player in regional trade and energy routes. The sultan's visit signals mutual interest in deepening economic and political cooperation amid shifting global dynamics.
