Chinese Vice-Premier He Lifeng held a video call on the evening of 6 November with US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer, according to the official Xinhua news agency.
During the call, the Chinese side expressed serious concerns over recent US economic and trade restrictions imposed on China. Both sides agreed to continue making good use of the China-US economic and trade consultation mechanism, to strengthen cooperation and properly manage differences, with the aim of promoting stable and positive development of bilateral economic and trade ties, Xinhua reported.
In a post on social media, Bessent said he discussed US-China economic relations with He, as well as the implementation of the Phase One trade deal. He stressed the importance of Beijing fully and immediately fulfilling its commitments.
Greer also emphasised that concrete action and full implementation of commitments by China were crucial, particularly in the areas of agricultural purchases and the supply of rare earths and other critical minerals.
The call comes amid ongoing tensions between the world's two largest economies, with the US maintaining a range of trade measures that China says harm its economic interests.
