People's Daily hails party plenum decision as key to Xi's vision
China's People's Daily says a key party decision fully implements Xi Jinping's thought on party building. The editorial calls it a guiding document for the new era and stresses strict party discipline as essential for long-term governance.
China's official People's Daily has published an editorial hailing the decision adopted at the closing of the fifth plenary session of the 20th Communist Party of China Central Committee in Beijing on 29 October. The editorial says the decision, titled 'On Persistently Advancing Full Strict Party Discipline on Several Major Issues', is a programmatic document for advancing party building in the new era.
The editorial argues that the decision is a necessary requirement for maintaining the party's advanced nature and purity, and for consolidating its long-term ruling status. It says Xi Jinping's thought on party building provides the fundamental guidance and action guide for deepening the great new project of party building in the new era. The decision, it adds, fully implements Xi's thought and proposes practical policy measures with significant immediate meaning and long-term guiding significance.
The editorial stresses that handling China's affairs well depends on the party and on strict party discipline. It says the longer the party governs, the longer the period of peace, and the more complex the environment, the more the party must strengthen its sense of urgency and remain vigilant in times of peace, and build the party well and strongly. Facing complex domestic and international situations and the arduous tasks of reform, development and stability, the editorial says, pushing Chinese-style modernisation forward steadily requires persistently advancing strict party discipline.
