WH Group first nine-month profit falls nearly 13 per cent
WH Group reported a nearly 13 per cent drop in pre-fair-value adjusted profit to US$1.017 billion for the first nine months of 2026, with revenue up 0.6 per cent. The company cited global pork oversupply and weak demand as key challenges.
WH Group, the Hong Kong-listed parent of Smithfield Foods, reported that its pre-biological fair value adjustment profit for the first nine months of 2026 fell nearly 13 per cent year-on-year to US$1.017 billion. After adjusting for biological fair value, profit stood at US$881 million, a decline of more than 27 per cent.
Revenue for the period edged up 0.6 per cent to US$20.61 billion. Sales volumes of processed meat and pork rose 3.9 per cent and 3 per cent, respectively.
The company attributed the profit decline to a broad downturn in global pork prices, driven by regional oversupply and weak consumer demand. In a statement, WH Group said that unfavourable factors including sluggish consumption, cost inflation, volatile commodity prices, intense market competition and policy uncertainty would continue to affect its operations.
To navigate the changing market environment, the group said it would step up efforts to adjust its product and channel mix, maintain price discipline, and strictly control costs and expenses.
