Water supply restored for most users in Shau Kei Wan and parts of Sai Wan after pipe repair
The Water Supplies Department said emergency repairs to a damaged water main on Shau Kei Wan Road were completed. Water supply for Shau Kei Wan and parts of Sai Wan resumed from 9:30 pm on 27 October.
The Water Supplies Department (WSD) said emergency repairs to a damaged water main on Shau Kei Wan Road had been completed, and the drinking water supply for Shau Kei Wan and parts of Sai Wan had gradually resumed from 9:30 pm on 27 October.
In a post on social media, the department said the incident involved a large and complex water supply network, so the actual time for individual users to have their supply restored could vary depending on factors such as terrain, location, pipe conditions and floor level. Based on past experience, the WSD noted that users at the end of the network or those on higher ground might need three to four hours for the water to reach them.
The WSD said it would continue to provide temporary water supply points and closely monitor the situation, ensuring enough water trucks and tanks were available until all users' supply returned to normal. The department reminded users that when supply resumes, the water may contain more air and form many bubbles, making it appear milky white or slightly cloudy at first, which is normal.
The WSD advised users to first remove the aerator from the tap, let the water run for a few minutes until it becomes clear, and then reattach the aerator. Users could also let the water sit in a container for a while to allow the bubbles to dissipate, after which the water would become clear again.
