Typhoon Jongdari kills one, injures 350 in Taiwan
Typhoon Jongdari has killed one person and injured 350 in Taiwan, with 3,600 incidents reported including fallen trees and power lines. Around 140,000 households lost power, with 20,000 still without electricity as of Saturday evening.
Strong Typhoon Jongdari has hit Taiwan, killing one person and injuring 350 as of Saturday evening, according to the disaster response centre.
The centre said the injured were mainly in Taichung, Changhua, Tainan and Kaohsiung, with most suffering minor injuries. Authorities across the island reported more than 3,600 incidents, mostly involving fallen trees, downed power lines and damaged buildings.
About 140,000 households lost power due to the typhoon. As of 7pm on Saturday, more than 20,000 households still had no electricity, and authorities aimed to restore supply by the end of the night.
The disaster response centre forecast that winds would ease slightly on Sunday, but warned that low-lying coastal areas could still face seawater intrusion or flooding due to the low-pressure system.
Taipei Taoyuan International Airport said it would gradually resume flights on Sunday as Jongdari moved away, expecting to handle more than 600 flights. It urged passengers to check with their airlines for the latest updates.
