Three arrested over Tseung Kwan O industrial area knife attack, police link to illegal fuel dispute

Police investigating an attempted murder in the Tseung Kwan O industrial area on 21 October have arrested three men, and said the case may be linked to a dispute over illegal fuel activities.

The three suspects, aged 16 to 19, are unemployed and all have triad backgrounds, police said. Two of them have been charged with conspiracy to cause grievous bodily harm and appeared in court on 26 October. The third is in custody and will be charged later.

According to police, at about 1am on 22 October, Tseung Kwan O Hospital reported that a 35-year-old man had sought treatment with multiple suspicious knife wounds. Preliminary investigations suggest the victim was driving a light goods vehicle parked on Chun Yat Street in Tseung Kwan O on the evening of 21 October when three men attacked him with knives. After surgery, the victim is in a stable condition and out of danger.

Police and firefighters later found about 150 litres of untaxed fuel in the victim's vehicle. Authorities may charge the man with illegal storage and transfer of fuel.

In a separate operation on 26 October, police and the Fire Services Department targeted illegal fuel transfers in the Tseung Kwan O industrial area. They intercepted a medium goods vehicle and seized about 750 litres of untaxed diesel. The driver was arrested for illegal fuel storage, and the case has been referred to the Fire Services Department for investigation.
