Sun Life Hong Kong reports 44% surge in new business APE in H1 2026
Sun Life Hong Kong's new business APE rose 44% year on year to HK$7.3bn in H1 2026, outpacing the market's 10% growth. The firm led non-bank insurers in Q2 and saw double-digit growth across all channels. CEO Clement Lam cited persistent protection and retirement gaps.
Sun Life Hong Kong reported a 44 per cent year-on-year surge in new business annualised premium equivalent (APE) to HK$7.3 billion in the first half of 2026, significantly outperforming the overall Hong Kong market growth of 10 per cent, the company announced on 23 October.
The insurer also achieved a 19 per cent increase in new business APE in the second quarter, a record that led Hong Kong's non-bank insurers in the industry.
All distribution channels delivered double-digit growth in the first half. The broker channel rose 34 per cent to HK$5.03 billion, ranking first in the market and underscoring the company's strengths in the high-net-worth and wealth management segments. The agency channel grew 48 per cent to HK$1.45 billion, reflecting what the firm said is the continued importance of professional financial advisors in helping clients address protection, retirement and wealth planning needs. Bancassurance channels rose 65 per cent to HK$593 million, extending the company's reach to clients through partner banks.
While market demand remains strong, individuals and families continue to face gaps in protection and retirement planning, said Clement Lam, chief executive of Sun Life Hong Kong.
Sun Life Asia's latest legacy planning research found that 85 per cent of Hong Kong respondents intend to pass on financial assets or wealth, yet only 10 per cent have fully documented their plans and communicated them to their heirs.
The company said it will continue to help clients build lifetime financial security by combining trusted expertise, innovative solutions and personalised experiences.
