Police urge extra travel time as new Huanggang Port sees heavy traffic
Hong Kong police warned of severe congestion at the new Huanggang Port on Sunday evening, with travellers facing 25-minute waits to reach drop-off zones. Crowd and traffic control measures were deployed. Traffic returned to normal by early Monday morning.
Police have urged travellers heading to the new Huanggang Port to allow extra time, with traffic at the Hong Kong-side building very busy on Sunday night.
In a social media post, police said large numbers of travellers were using different modes of transport to reach the port, causing congestion on connecting roads, and that crowd and traffic control measures were in place.
Vehicles were waiting an average of about 25 minutes to reach the port's drop-off area, police said, urging travellers to be patient, follow instructions from officers and security staff, and allow sufficient time.
In an update around 1am, police said cross-boundary vehicle traffic at the new Huanggang Port had returned to normal by 12.50am.
