Pedestrian hospitalised after being hit by school bus in Pat Heung

A pedestrian was hospitalised on Tuesday morning after a school bus struck him on Kam Sheung Road in Pat Heung, Hong Kong. The accident occurred at about 11.45am as the bus was heading towards Yuen Long.

According to the authorities, the man stepped onto the roadway opposite Pok Oi Kong Ha Wai Village and was hit by the oncoming vehicle. Paramedics treated him for injuries to his head and mouth before taking him by ambulance to Pok Oi Hospital.

Social-media footage of the incident shows the victim, wearing a white shirt and a face mask, preparing to cross the multi-lane road without using a designated pedestrian crossing. The recording indicates he looked only towards traffic coming from his left, failing to notice the school bus approaching from his right before stepping into the traffic lane.

By the time the man saw the vehicle, he had no time to avoid the collision and was knocked down, landing on the sidewalk. The clip prompted widespread discussion online, with many commentators highlighting the dangers of jaywalking without checking both directions.

Several netizens noted that the bus driver was travelling at a moderate speed, which likely prevented more serious injuries. Others questioned whether the pedestrian, who appeared to be in the habit of crossing recklessly, might have been distracted by his smartphone.
