The Hong Kong government has opened new sports and leisure facilities at Wo Tsai Shan (Wo Tsai Hill) in Sham Shui Po district, including table tennis tables, a range of fitness equipment and safety flooring. The facilities became available for use from today, 5 October 2026.
The Home Affairs Department posted photos and a video on social media, saying that on the first day of opening, many local residents had already used the new equipment. The department said the facilities provide a better and safer experience for sports and leisure activities.
The department noted that the illegal occupation of government land at Wo Tsai Shan had been a long-standing problem in Sham Shui Po for more than a decade. It said the current administration had taken on the challenge, resolved to tackle the issue, and acted firmly in accordance with the law, while also taking into account community needs.
In mid-August, the authorities completed a two-phase operation to clear illegal and unsafe structures, facilities and杂物 from Wo Tsai Shan. Following the clearance, they immediately proceeded with improvement projects in suitable and safe locations on the site, including repairing road signs, railings and shade structures, as well as adding benches and sports facilities.
