Hong Kong's new Huanggang checkpoint recorded 92,619 cross-border trips on 16 October, with more than 80 per cent of travellers being Hong Kong residents, according to the Hong Kong Immigration Department. Among the total, over 39,000 people entered Hong Kong while more than 52,000 departed for the mainland.
Across all Hong Kong control points, more than 1.07 million cross-border trips were logged on the same day. Lo Wu remained the busiest checkpoint, handling over 209,000 travellers.
The Transport Department said on 16 October that special traffic and public transport arrangements would be implemented at the new Huanggang checkpoint starting 17 October, coinciding with the three-day Chung Yeung Festival holiday period and subsequent peak hours. The measures aim to facilitate smoother passenger flow.
The department urged the public to plan their journeys in advance and choose appropriate checkpoints according to their needs, advising against rushing to use the new crossing. The holiday period is expected to bring additional surges in cross-border traffic.
