Mong Kok toy store offers HK$5,000 reward after theft of Hot Toys items

A major toy store in Mong Kok has reported the theft of Hot Toys merchandise valued at approximately HK$5,000, allegedly taken by a suspect over several visits. The shop owner has filed a police report and posted security camera footage on social media to help identify the individual.

In an effort to encourage the public to come forward, the store is offering a HK$5,000 cash reward—equivalent to the value of the stolen goods—to anyone who provides information leading to the perpetrator's arrest.

Security footage shared online shows the store crowded with shoppers. A man wearing a white shirt, black thick-rimmed glasses, and a face mask is seen reaching for a boxed Hot Toys product on a top shelf. He grabs the item and casually walks out of the store, completing the theft in a matter of seconds.

Social media posts from the store confirmed that the suspect had targeted Hot Toys merchandise on separate occasions and emphasised that the matter has been handed over to law enforcement.

The video has sparked widespread discussion online, with many internet users commenting on the suspect's calm demeanour, suggesting he acted as if no one was watching and may have done this before. Others expressed sympathy for the store, noting the extra hardship such losses cause during challenging business times.

Under Section 9 of Hong Kong's Theft Ordinance, a person who commits theft is guilty of an offence and is liable on conviction on indictment to imprisonment for up to 10 years.
