The Development Bureau has received reports from the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department and the Architectural Services Department concerning engineering problems that have left multiple lifts inoperative at the new clinical building of Mary Hospital. The bureau is reviewing the reports to determine whether there were deficiencies in the construction, inspection and supervision of the lift works, and to explore whether the oversight system for similar engineering projects can be improved.
In response to inquiries, the Development Bureau said its target is to submit an investigation report to the Chief Executive by mid-October. The bureau stated that it is not appropriate to comment at this stage as the investigation is still ongoing. The authorities have previously indicated that they will later report the investigation findings to the Legislative Council's Development Affairs Committee and make a public explanation.
