Man dies weeks after escalator fall at Tsuen Wan mall

A 58-year-old man has died nearly three weeks after falling on an escalator at Tsuen Wan's KOLOUR II on Mid-Autumn Festival night.

The incident occurred around 8pm on 25 September at the mall on Tsuen Wan Market Street. The man, surnamed Kwok, was alone and taking the escalator from the ground floor to the first floor when he apparently slipped and fell, striking his head and losing consciousness.

Rescuers took him to Yan Chai Hospital in critical condition. He remained hospitalised for nearly three weeks before being certified dead at 6.30pm on Wednesday.

Sources said the man had a history of medical conditions. After the accident, bloodstains and bloodied tissues were left on the escalator, which mall staff cordoned off.
