MTR boosts services for Chung Yeung Festival weekend
MTR will increase East Rail line and K52A bus services from Friday to Monday for Chung Yeung Festival tomb sweeping, and add high-speed rail trips to Shenzhen and Futian after talks with mainland rail authorities.
MTR has announced enhanced transport services for the Chung Yeung Festival period, starting Friday, to accommodate residents travelling to cemeteries and border crossings.
From Friday to Monday, the East Rail line will see additional trains during specified morning and evening hours between Admiralty and Lok Ma Chau or Lo Wu. The frequency for trains to Lok Ma Chau will be shortened from every 10 minutes to every 8.6 minutes, easing travel for cross-border passengers and those along the route.
MTR Bus K52A will also run a strengthened schedule on weekends and public holidays this month, carrying passengers between Tuen Mun station on the Tuen Ma line and the Tsang Tsui Columbarium.
In addition, following discussions with mainland railway authorities, MTR said the high-speed rail (Hong Kong section) will increase short-haul services from Friday to Monday. On Friday, two extra pairs of trains will operate between Hong Kong West Kowloon station and Futian or Shenzhen North stations. From Saturday to Monday, an additional 10 to 12 pairs of daily trains will run between Hong Kong West Kowloon and Futian.
The measures aim to support the higher passenger demand expected during the festival, when many people visit graves and travel across the border.
