Lorry drops box on Fanling Highway, triggers three-vehicle crash

Two dashcam videos circulating online on Thursday show a lorry travelling along Fanling Highway towards Yuen Long dropping a large cardboard box onto the fast lane, apparently because its load was not secured.

The incident occurred around 5.07pm. The camera car could not stop in time and hit the box with a loud bang, sending it into the middle of the road. The driver was heard swearing and saying he could not swerve in time.

Minutes later, at 5.14pm, police received a report that a private car travelling along Fanling Highway near Tai Hang Village slowed down after seeing a box on the road, but vehicles behind could not stop in time, causing a three-vehicle pile-up.

A 30-year-old male driver surnamed Cheung complained of ear pain and was taken to North District Hospital conscious.

Netizens criticised the lorry driver, saying securing loads is basic common sense and calling the driver irresponsible.
