Labour Department to hold occupational health talks for office workers

Hong Kong's Labour Department will hold two free public lectures on occupational health in October and November, the government announced on 26 October.

The first lecture will take place at 3:30pm on 26 October at the Hong Kong Space Museum lecture theatre, 10 Salisbury Road, Tsim Sha Tsui. A departmental occupational health nurse will deliver the talk in Cantonese.

A second lecture, titled “Office Employee Occupational Health Series (II): Office Employees – Prevention of Musculoskeletal Disorders”, will be held at 3:30pm on 19 November at the Hong Kong Central Library lecture theatre, 66 High Street, Causeway Bay. It will be presented by an occupational hygiene officer and an occupational health nurse.

The November session will cover the causes and prevention of musculoskeletal disorders, with demonstrations and practice of workplace exercises. The department noted that office employees who perform repetitive tasks or maintain poor sitting postures for long periods are prone to strain in the lower back and upper limbs.

Both lectures are free and will be conducted in Cantonese. Advance registration is required via the online system at www.oshsreg.gov.hk. Enquiries can be directed to 2852 4040.
