Interpol meetings in Hong Kong granted privileges and immunities
Hong Kong has gazetted an order granting Interpol privileges and immunities for its 231st executive committee meeting and 94th general assembly in the city. The meetings will run from 29 November to 3 December 2026. The government says it will showcase the success of "one country, two systems".
The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government has gazetted an order granting privileges and immunities to Interpol and related persons for the organisation's 231st executive committee meeting and 94th general assembly, both to be held in Hong Kong later this year.
The order, made by the Chief Executive in Council under the International Organisations (Privileges and Immunities) Ordinance (Cap. 558), implements an agreement signed between the Central People's Government and Interpol. The agreement covers the privileges and immunities to be granted in connection with the two meetings.
The 94th general assembly, Interpol's highest governing body, will be held in Hong Kong from 30 November to 3 December 2026. The annual meeting brings together delegates from member countries to discuss international policing matters and promote cooperation. The 231st executive committee session, chaired by Interpol's president, will take place on 29 November 2026. The committee oversees implementation of general assembly resolutions and the administration and operations of Interpol's general secretariat.
A government spokesman said: "The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government will make every effort to ensure the success of the 231st executive committee meeting and the 94th general assembly, which are hosted by the country and undertaken by Hong Kong. We will showcase the achievements of 'one country, two systems' and tell the stories of China, Hong Kong and the police force."
The order will be tabled at the Legislative Council on 21 October 2026 for the "made after scrutiny" procedure and will take effect on the same day.
