International Eco Expo public day features premiere of "Beautiful China" series and quiz

The public day of the 21st International Eco Expo in Hong Kong on 29 October featured the premiere of the third season of the documentary series "Beautiful China" and an environmental quiz competition. Dr. Au Sze-man, speaking at the event, said this year marks the start of the nation's 15th five-year plan. The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government has formulated the "First Five-Year Plan for Economic and Social Development of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (2026-2030)" to align with national efforts in low-carbon green transformation and energy reform, aiming to build Hong Kong into a city with blue skies and clean seas.

Dr. Au noted that the third season of "Beautiful China" consists of five episodes covering wetlands, Xinjiang landscapes and the Tibetan Plateau, showcasing the nation's efforts in harmonious coexistence between humans and nature. Following the premiere, Dr. Au and Yung Ting-fong hosted an environmental quiz titled "Into the Environmental Challenge", which tested knowledge on environmental protection work under Hong Kong's first five-year plan and topics from the documentary and guided tours. They praised students for their active participation and knowledge, encouraging them to bring enthusiasm for environmental protection into daily life and build a green lifestyle with their families.

Dr. Au and other guests also presented awards to winners of the "Universal Recycling" creative short film competition, which invited Hong Kong residents to promote source separation and clean recycling through videos. Professional judges and public votes determined the winners. Dr. Au thanked participants for using creativity to promote waste reduction and recycling, and encouraged winners to continue spreading green living messages. The winners' list is available on the "Universal Recycling Day" website.

The 21st International Eco Expo was held from 26 to 29 October, with the final day open free to the public. Other public day activities included a space lecture by Dr. Yu Cheung-tai of the Chinese University of Hong Kong's Institute of Space and Earth Information Science, who discussed how geographic information technology relates to environment and health, and demonstrated how satellites, maps and data help scientists see hidden links between environment and health. Dr. Yu also hosted a space workshop and exchange activities for Hong Kong and mainland Chinese students. Additional activities included guided tours, environmental talks, a 3D printing workshop using recycled plastic, and interactive games, attracting over 1,000 students.
