Interactive theatre show on family harmony premieres in Hong Kong primary schools

The Family Council of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region held the premiere of its interactive theatre show “Family · Harmony · Inclusion · Burst Spin!” at a primary school on 23 October 2026. The show is part of the council’s “Family · Harmony · Inclusion” campaign, which aims to promote family acceptance, cultural inclusion and cross-generational unity, and to extend good family values into the wider community.

The interactive theatre revolves around the “Bid Bird Family” and their experience in a primary school spinning-top competition. Characters evolve from a focus on winning to learning to listen, empathise and take responsibility, and from a fear of failure to a willingness to try and affirm themselves. The story highlights the power of family members accompanying and supporting one another. Traditional Chinese virtues such as propriety, integrity, shame, benevolence and peaceful coexistence run throughout the play. Through interactive techniques, the audience is encouraged to step into the characters' situations and understand the importance of respecting differences and building consensus.

Speaking at the premiere, Ms Chan Lok-nga, Commissioner for Women's Affairs of the Home and Youth Affairs Bureau, said: “This interactive theatre integrates traditional virtues with creativity to arouse the interest and resonance of the audience. Besides promoting family virtues, we hope this play can inspire parents to guide children to build positive, self-reliant values from an early age.” She added that the Chief Executive had announced in the 2026 Policy Address that the bureau and the Family Council would again organise a territory-wide “Good Family Election” to promote good family values and pass on quality family traditions.

Mr Pang Wan-kai, Chairman of the Family Council, said at the event: “The interactive theatre aims to promote traditional virtues and the importance of harmonious coexistence to the younger generation, so that good family values can take root at home, extend to the campus and enrich society.”

The “Family · Harmony · Inclusion · Burst Spin!” interactive theatre will tour about 70 primary schools across Hong Kong from October 2026 to March 2027, promoting the power of family and a culture of harmony and inclusion to students.
